RM5 is out

Postby cwwong » 07 May 2008 12:32

Finally, the Birds RM5 in sheets/100 with imprint date 2007/1 has been released, replacing the (very) long running $5 banana. Note that the banana was never issued in "RM" meaning that they must have really printed a lot of it those days.

So now, with the RM 5 issue, only three values of the birds series have still to be issued in sheets/100 - 40s, 75s and RM 2.

The left hand side stamp is the original print while the right is the new print.

The differences of the original issue and the new issue are highlighted as below:

For the new print, the word "Malaysia" is shifted up.

The word "RM5" is more shifted to the upper right corner.

The lower part wording is also shifted up.

I do not think that any importance can be attached to the position of the black printing. The black colour will be applied at a different printing stage to the other colours, and some misalignment is bound to occur with different printings. What is importent is when the size or style of the print changes, which has not happened in this case as far as I can see.
