Over the last decade, the bilateral ties between Singapore and Vietnam have strengthened rapidly and both countries cooperate closely within ASEAN and at other international arena. This year marks the 35th year of diplomatic relations with Vietnam since 1973, and in this joint stamp issue with Vietnam, the theme “Fruits” was chosen and the very well-known King of Fruits, Durian and its equal, Dragonfruit, whose flower, named Queen of the Night, are featured.

Distinctive for its large size, unique odour, and formidable thorn-covered husk, the Durian can grow up to 30cm long and 15 cm in diameter, and typically weighs one to three kilograms. Special variety such as Mao Shan Wang, D24, XO, Golden Phoenix etc...excites all the durian lovers who will scramble to popular durian haunts like Sims Avenue, Balestier Road, Joo Chiat Place and Yio Chu Kang Road in Singapore.

Dramatic in appearance, bright pink, or slight reddish, or yellow skinned, with green colored spine-like scales, the Dragonfruit can grow to about 15 - 20cm long. With a completely contrasting taste as to the durian, and is sometimes likened to that of the kiwifruit due to a prevalence of sesame seed-sized black crunchy seeds found in the flesh of the fruit, the Dragonfruit is said to have loads of vitamin C and can aid in digestion.
